Challenger Leadership Members Rappel for Charity.
Last week, Challenger’s very own Lynda Crickmore (Vice President of Operations) and Geoff Topping (Senior Director of Human Resources) participated in Make-A-Wish Foundation’s event Rope for Hope.
What is Rope for Hope, you ask?
“Rope-for-Hope… is a unique challenge event that calls on participants to fundraise in support of local wish-granting efforts, in exchange for an exhilarating experience to rappel down a city skyscraper.” (www.ropeforhope.ca)
That’s right. Lynda and Geoff geared up and rappelled down one of London Ontario’s tallest buildings in the city center.
Lynda and Geoff joined the Rappelling team Trucking for Wishes which formed in 2007, and has donated more than $350,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation through a variety of initiatives. (You can learn more about this team at their website: www.truckingforwishes.com).
This year, Challenger’s support got the company logo on the Trucking for Wishes trailer. For this event, Trucking for Wishes was one of the top teams in Canada for Rope for Hope, raising an incredible sixty-seven thousand dollars.
When asked about his rappelling experience, Geoff Topping says, “This was my first time! I had never done anything like this before! Gearing up and standing at the edge were not too bad. But that first step back was when I got nervous! It was an amazing experience – the descent was a great adrenaline rush and total blast!”
Lynda Crickmore adds, “I would totally recommend this! It was incredible! I was so glad to support a great team that supports a great cause!”
The Rope for Hope event was a great success, and Geoff and Lynda represented our company bravely, fundraising and stepping backwards off the ledge, dozens of stories away from the ground. They’ve demonstrated a great example of Going the Distance for a great cause!
