I hear and read a lot about communication and the speed that we communicate in this day and age, but I often wonder if faster communication is really better communication. At times, the speed of communication is no doubt important, in an emergency of any kind the faster we share information the better for everyone involved. But does communication always have to be fast? I think a good one on one or group conversation, or a phone call can still accomplish a lot, they may not be fast and reach hundreds of people at one time but they are still effective. At Challenger we have many different mediums that we use to communicate to our staff and drivers such as, social media, newsletters, web portals, blogs, weekly e-mails, round table meetings, satellite messages, bulletin boards, websites, and intranet sites yet we still get asked for more communication. I have and will continue to ask staff and Drivers how we can reach them better and I must say that a lot of the mediums listed are helping us to reach a lot of people but still we are being asked for more. If you are reading this and are part of the Challenger Team please let me know how you think we as a company can communicate more effectively. Without your input on what works and what does not work we cannot make a difference. We know that our people want communication and we are committed to making this happen. If you are reading this and are not part of the Challenger team, I would still like to hear your ideas and perhaps discuss you becoming a part of the Challenger team.
